NOTE:  YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE AND PROVIDE A BRING A VALID ID  AND CREDIT CARD TO RENT A KAYAK OR PADDLE BOARD.

For those who prefer to paddle at their own pace, kayak and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) rentals are available at The 41° North Yak Shack Rental Center in the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation in Lakewood, Ohio.

SINGLE TOURING KAYAK Rental

Rent a single touring kayak and explore the Rocky River and Lake Erie coast at your own pace.

Our fleet of stable light touring kayaks are perfect for beginner paddlers without sacrificing the performance you need for paddling in a coastal environment. All our single kayaks have dual bulkheads for safety on open water.

Our fleet of single kayaks includes the following rec-touring kayaks:

  • Wilderness Systems Tsunami 125 (max paddler weight = 245lbs)
  • Wilderness Systems Tsunami 135 (max paddler weight = 160 lbs)
  • Wilderness Systems Tsunami 140 (max paddler weight = 180 lbs)
  • Dagger Kayaks Alchemy 140 (max paddler weight = 190 lbs)

TANDEM (2 PERSON) KAYAK

Rent a tandem kayak, grab a paddling partner, and explore the Rocky River and Lake Erie coast at your own pace. Our fleet of super stable tandem kayaks are perfect for beginner paddlers and a great platform for enjoying our Great Lake. Tandems also make a great choice for safely paddling with kids.

If your paddling partner is under 14, we have youth PFDs (for children 30lbs and up) and kids-sized paddles so they can join in the fun.

Our fleet of tandem kayaks includes the following:

NOTE: To ensure the safety and comfort of our clients, the maximum combined weight for paddlers in a tandem kayak may not exceed 475lbs, with no individual in the pair exceeding 245 lbs.

STAND-UP PADDLEBOARD (SUP)

Rent a stand-up paddle board (SUP) and see the Rocky River and Lake Erie coast from a whole new perspective.  Our fleet of wide, stable SUPs are great for beginner paddlers.  

 Our fleet of SUPs include the following boards:

  • BicSport Cross 10' (maximum rider weight 220lbs)
  • Glide 10' (33" wide; 4.5" thick;   maximum rider weight = 215 lbs)
  • Glide 11' (34" wide; 4.75" thick;   maximum rider weight = 240 lbs)

SAFETY  

We take safety seriously.    While the Rocky River is always calm, Lake Erie's power must be respected.   That's why we ask all paddlers to abide by simple rules to keep them safe on the water.

Rentals are restricted to the Rocky River if conditions on the Lake exceed winds of 10 knots from the west, northwest, north, northeast, or east and waves are greater than 2ft, or if offshore winds (south) exceed 15 knots.

All kayakers are required to read and agree to our "Rules of the Road" and sign a waiver before renting a boat or SUP from 41 North.

Each kayak rental comes with a properly fitted PFD (personal floatation device), paddle, spray skirt (if requested) and bilge pump.

AGE LIMITS:

Participants much be at least 14 years of age & accompanied by an adult in order to paddle to paddle a single kayak; (children under 14 may paddle in a tandem with an adult; minimum weight for children is 35lbs).  

WEIGHT LIMITS FOR PADDLERS:

    • SINGLE KAYAK - min 95 -  max 245lbs
    • TANDEM KAYAKS- combined weight max of 475 lbs, with no individual exceeding 245 lbs.
    • SUPs - min 95 - max 215 lbs.

ESSENTIAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PADDLERS:

All participants must be able to enter and exit a boat, maintain balance in a boat or on an SUP without assistance, and must wear a properly fitted PFD at all times (i.e., on, zipped, and buckled).   If your body type doesn't enable you to fit in one of our PFDs, you must bring your own.
